8 Not-So-Typical Love Songs for the Edgy Soul

8 Not-So-Typical Love Songs for the Edgy Soul

Do you ever feel the urge to listen to love songs that aren’t the cliche slow and romantic, soft rock/pop from the 80s and 90s?  Do you wish for love songs that are more edgy like your personality?  Here are a few alternative rock songs that will make you feel the love.  Read the lyrics as you listen… it’s better that way 🙂

Summer Song – Wavorly

Spread the blanket on top, and I’ll turn off the lights
And we’ll gaze at the stars
With you by my side, the moon set to the right
It’s incomparable so far

I haven’t stopped falling in love
Haven’t stopped falling

Two years ago, I had no idea that you were so perfect
As we wait so long, until we join hands
You make the wait worth it

I haven’t stopped falling in love
Haven’t stopped falling

Now years down the road
Still hasn’t gotten old to sit and laugh the day away
There’s one thing you should know
My love for you grows even more every day

I haven’t stopped falling in love
Haven’t stopped falling in love

And the day that I finally can take you home
There’s no way that I’m ever, ever letting go
We’ll be ok, though miles may separate
There’s no space between our hearts
And this day, I choose to keep loving you
As if it were a choice, I can’t stop falling…

I haven’t stopped falling in love

Spread the blanket on top, and I’ll turn off the lights

Best Is Yet To Come – RED

A good song for couples going through a tough season in their marriage/relationship.

Afraid it won’t come ’round again
Afraid to move on
Wishing i could go back when
Everything was easier and meaningful to me
Wanting all we left behind
Like it’s the answer
An hourglass we can’t rewind
Holding back the life that I’ve denied for so long
Can i find my way to you

And after all that we’ve been through
And after all we left in pieces
I still believe our lives have just begun
‘Cause now the past can be outrun
And I know you are the reason
I still believe the best is yet to come

A photograph still in your hands
Afraid to let go
The minutes rain like grains of sand
And time is just a war that’s stealing dreams from within
So come and take them back again

And after all that we’ve been through
And after all we left in pieces
I still believe our lives have just begun
‘Cause now the past can be outrun
And I know you are the reason
I still believe the best is yet to come

I won’t turn around
And let it all slip away
I’m never backing down
‘Cause tomorrow’s a new day
And everything can change

And after all that we’ve been through
And after all we left in pieces
I still believe our lives have just begun
‘Cause now the past can be outrun
And I know you are the reason
I still believe the best is yet to come
Still believe the best is yet to come
The best is yet to come
Still believe the best is yet to come

Wind In My Sails – Spoken

The first snow of the season came on a wednesday afternoon
Snow covered highway makes it so hard to see the road I’m driving
Sometimes it seems impossible to focus on anything other than you
Right now the world seems so silent because I’d rather think of you
You make me feel like I can do anything, everything
You are the wind in my sail, baby
You’re everything I need, you’re my love and understanding
6 AM 1.35; the sun rising from the horizon
Colors shoot across the sky, the road is silent
Oh all of this that I wanted, to watch the snow fall down with you
The road is silent, now I’m headed home to you
You are the wind in my sail, baby
You’re everything I need, you’re my love and understanding
You are the wind in my sail, baby, you know you are
You’re everything I need, you’re my love and understanding
You make me feel like I can do anything
You make me feel like I can do anything, my love

We’re So Far Away – Mae

This was our theme song when Outdoor Broker and I were dating long distance.

Remembering, everything,
about my world and when you came.
Wondering, the change you’d bring,
means nothing else would be the same.
Did you know, what you were doing, did you know.
Did you know how you would move me well,
I don’t really think so.
but the night came down and swept us away.
and the stars they seemed,
to paint the most elaborate scene today.

How could we know? that song, this show,
we’d learn so much about ourselves.
From Toledo, to Tokyo,
the words were scribed on every page,
and now there’s books up on our shelves.
Did you know how you would move us, did you know?
When the lights first came upon us,
and we saw The Everglow.
and the moment’s magic swept us away.
and the young mans dream was almost seen so plain.

When was the night
that showed us the sign?
Revealed in the sky, to leave all behind.
But where to begin? throwing caution to the wind,
We reached for the stars, everything was now ours.

Did you know how you would move me, did you know?
Did you know how you would move me?
well, I don’t even think so.
but the moment’s magic swept us away.
and it’s so close, but we’re so far away.
It’s so close, but we’re so far away.

Tangled Up In You – Staind

I would have had this song played at my wedding if I had known it when I got married.

You’re my world
The shelter from the rain
You’re the pills
That take away my pain
You’re the light
That helps me find my way
You’re the words
When I have nothing to say

And in this world
Where nothing else is true
Here I am
Still tangled up in you
I’m still tangled up in you
Still tangled up in you

You’re the fire
That warms me when i’m cold
You’re the hand
I have to hold as I grow old
You’re the shore
When I am lost at sea
You’re the only thing
That I like about me

And in this world
Where nothing else is true
Here I am
Still tangled up in you
I’m still tangled up in you

How long has it been
Since this storyline began
And I hope it never ends
And goes like this forever

In this world
Where nothing else is true
Here I am
Still tangled up in you
Tangled up in you
I’m still tangled up in you
Still tangled up in you

If – House of Heroes

I could be in love if you wore that dress every day
With your hair just so and your eyes of grey
You’d make a beautiful bird on a line
A beautiful bride of Frankenstein
A beautiful drop of iodine
If you were mine, if you were mine, if you were mine

I could be in love if the sun came out every day
Set the sky on fire and the city grey
I’d be there at the drop of a dime
If you were mine, if you were mine, if you were mine

If you were mine I’d tear the altar down of all that I’d lost to romance
If you were mine I’d risk my dignity if only to give love a chance
If you were mine, I’d have the world
I’d have the world if you were mine

And I could be in love if the sirens sang every day
You draw me closer to destiny
Give us this moment to shine
Me and my bride of Frankenstein
A beautiful bird on a line
If you were mine, if you were mine, if you were mine
Would you be mine? Would you be mine?

If you were mine I’d tear the altar down of all that I’d lost to romance
If you were mine I’d risk my dignity if only to give love a chance
If you were mine, I’d have the world
I’d have the world if you were mine
If you were mine, I’d have the world
I’d have the world if you were mine

Revelation – The Wedding

This song is about a wedding… sung by The Wedding.

They take off their coats and they start to fill the rows.
The scene is all laid out; it’s what we always dreamed about.

Cause you and me have stood the test of time
And proved that we will make it out all right.
Today is when faith will turn to sight.

The preacher takes his place, all eyes watching as I wait.
The doors open wide and I can’t believe my eyes.

Funny thing is it doesn’t matter much,
What the world could try and throw at us.
Cause they could never touch us now

Your Guardian Angel – The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

(It gets real at 2:30)

When I see your smile
Tears run down my face I can’t replace
And now that I’m strong I have figured out
How this world turns cold and it breaks through my soul
And I know I’ll find deep inside me I can be the one

I will never let you fall (let you fall)
I’ll stand up with you forever
I’ll be there for you through it all (through it all)
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay.
Seasons are changing
And waves are crashing
And stars are falling all for us
Days grow longer and nights grow shorter
I can show you I’ll be the one

I will never let you fall (let you fall)
I’ll stand up with you forever
I’ll be there for you through it all (through it all)
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

‘Cause you’re my, you’re my, my, my true love, my whole heart
Please don’t throw that away
‘Cause I’m here for you
Please don’t walk away and
Please tell me you’ll stay, whoa, stay, whoa

Use me as you will
Pull my strings just for a thrill
And I know I’ll be okay
Though my skies are turning gray

I will never let you fall
I’ll stand up with you forever
I’ll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

Awesome article, girl. You know I’m the king of “unconventional”. There are many I could toss out there, but this one is a favorite of mine. Yes it is geeky-electronic-80s-showing-my-age music, but Only You by Yazoo (1982) is amazing and yes… not-so-typical. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FH8Y6nN7N1E

Thanks for the song! I don’t think I’ve ever heard it… Which is not too surprising haha. It sounds just like something you’d like 🙂
